Happy Thanksgiving Empty
PostSubject: Happy Thanksgiving   Happy Thanksgiving EmptyFri Nov 16, 2018 11:13 pm

The Pilgrims arrived in the new world and the first winter they found life nearly unbearable. History says that many of them would not survive. Massosoit, the chief of the Wampanoag tribe took pitty on the white settlers and he and his people taught them to hunt, grow corn, and basically how to survive the harsh winter conditions of this vast new world. The natives and the settlers had created a pact or an alliance that first winter, an alliance that was short lived and not held up on the side of the settlers. Remember that the pilgrims came to America to escape religious persecution from  the church of England.

After colonizing the new world the white settlers went back on their word to the natives, violated the treaty they had signed with them, and declared war on the natives. Land was stolen and many tribes were murdered. The Natives were forced to conform to the religious standards of the puritans or be killed themselves. (So much for religious freedom). The Natives were forced off their lands, had their families torn apart, forced to join the English church or die, and all for what? Because they were kind enough to help some stupid ass white people keep from freezing to death or starving after invading their lands?

So, as you sit around your table eating turkey and giving thanks, remember all the native people who suffered and died because they were simply kind enough to help a small group of white people survive the winter, unknown to them that in the years to follow, hordes of these white invaders would soon over run their land and destroy their way of life. Happy Thanksgiving.

Sess. This is EXACTLY what I think of every Thanksgiving.  The persecution of Native Americans is always on my mind. Luckily, 2 Native Women have made it to Congress.  Hopefully their voices will begin to be heard in a country that was theirs in the first place.

However, I still participate in giving my own thanks for my many blessings each year.

Happy Thanksgiving
